Today is pretty much a holiday here in Washington state where I live. It’s Super Bowl Sunday and our beloved Seattle Seahawks are playing in it for the second year in a row. Not much could be going on today that would be more exciting than that, but here’s a couple bits that came up this weekend.
Star Wars: Rebels season 2
Freddie Prinze Jr. (the voice of Kanan Jarrus) tweeted his excitement about the second season of the Rebels show stating that it will be twice as long as the first season. This could mean we are in for quite a lot of action in season 2. The first season isn’t over yet and 3 more episodes have been announced, so including the double episode opener that brings the total episodes (we know of) for the first season up to 13. A 26 episode season 2 would be pretty long but Clone Wars seasons were usually 22, so maybe that’s not too far off. We’ve also heard that we could see the first 2 episodes of season 2 at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this April. To let you know, I plan on writing a review of the first season of Rebels after it has all aired, and I re-watch it (so you got that going for ya’, which is nice).
New Screenwriter for the 2016 Stand-alone Film
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chris Weitz is stepping in a screenwriter for the first stand-alone Star Wars spin-off coming in 2016 since Gary Whitta left the role. Chris Weitz has worked on several films in the last few years and has a Young Adult book trilogy he’s working on now called “The Young World“. This swapping of writers also happened on Episode VII when Michael Arndt left and J.J, Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over finishing the script so I wouldn’t consider it to a bad omen or anything.
Rumors for the 2016 Stand-alone Film
So according to iKwiz somebody working on the first stand-alone film (rumored to be about Boba Fett, and Han Solo, but almost definitely not about Obi-Wan) got drunk at a party and let some things slip. Those things being that Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past) is the front-runner for playing Boba Fett and that the name “Boba Fett” is going to be a title that gets passed down (think Dread Pirate Roberts) from one Mandalorian to another. Normally I don’t wanna report on silly rumors, the only reason I mention this is because I want to tell you that it’s dumb. First of, it contradicts the established canon of the films. Jango Fett had a clone and named him Boba, that’s a kids name not a title. So unless Jango had some plans of making sure his kid was going to become “Boba Fett” some day (which would be like an american naming his kid President) then it doesn’t make any sense. Second, there already is a title established for the Mandalorians like this: Mandalore. So if Gareth Edwards or Chris Weitz somehow read this, Don’t do it!
Alright, I hope everyone enjoys the game today and GO HAWKS!
